Develop your folk singing. Learn new interpretation techniques and methods. Find your own style and develop your repertoire both in this friendly group setting and in a public performance at the end of the semester.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Present a variety of folk songs as solos in class
  • Perform with greater confidence
  • Develop aural and musical skills by learning by ear
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to interpret folk songs and express them in your own way
  • Present folk songs with an awareness of their context
  • Demonstrate an understanding of vocal technique

Class format and activities
Group exercises and vocal warm-up. Singing in front of students (in a master class format) Listening and evaluating other students’ performances.

Entry requirements
To get the full benefit of this course, you must be able to sing in time and in tune. This course welcomes new and returning students.

What you need to know before registering
The course includes some stretching exercises during the vocal warm-up, however, if you have mobility difficulties, just let your tutor know and they will try to provide

Music will be provided, but you will be invited to bring songs you already know to some classes if you wish.
