music

Our degree in folk and traditional music was the first of its kind. The program focuses on traditional music and song. National and international artists teach as resident and guest lecturers on this degree.

Performance and group playing are at the heart of this course, but you will also study the social and cultural context of traditional and folk music, and how music helps to build identity and culture.

As you progress through the degree, you’ll have increasing freedom to choose modules to tailor your learning, including from our Contemporary, Popular and Classical Music degrees.

Our teaching is research-based. Course content may change from time to time in response to developments in the discipline, requirements of external bodies and partners, and student feedback.
