Mimi Fariņa & Tom Jans:
Case Western Reserve 8th April 1972
Klondike Records (KLCD5015)

Released January 20, 2015
Running time: 56:29

This CD captures Mimi and Tom opening for Dave Van Ronk at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, during a blizzard. The show was recorded by WNCR-FM and has been floating around for many years as a bootleg, but it's great to finally have it on CD with improved sound. It's just Mimi and Tom on acoustic guitars, so the arrangements of songs from Take Heart are much more stripped down, giving a fresh take on these classics. "Good God, I'm Feeling Fine", written by Tom, was a single that was not included on the Take Heart album nor the CD reissue, and so the live version here is the first CD appearance of this exhilarating song. "Loving Arms" would later be an early hit in Tom's solo career, to be covered by Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell, Etta James, and Kenny Rogers. The duo also cover several songs by other artists. Richard's "Children of Darkness" is a welcome addition, and remained in Mimi's repertoire throughout her solo career. The Gil Turner song "Carry It On" may also be a nod to Richard, as he had recorded it with Judy Collins on her Fifth Album. "You're Sixteen" was a Johnny Burnette in 1960, and provides an occasion for Tom to reminisce about growing up in the 1950s.

There are no songwriting credits given on the CD, nor is any credit given for the liner notes or the photos, some of which were pulled off of this site (the two photos in the middle are by Bill Scott and Steve Dulson).
